In the five years since Jwaneng became the host town of the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race, the biggest sporting and social event of the year in the country, a number of significant changes have taken place in what is this year the third round of the South African Cross Country Series (SACCS).

Jwaneng, in the southern district of Botswana is home to Debswana mine – one of the richest diamond mines in the world – with this year’s race be run from June 22 to 24. Not unlike Formula One’s silly season cross country enthusiasts in Botswana start planning early for what is probably motorsport’s biggest annual travelling party: speculation on the route and the entry list is rife and always produces a couple of surprises.

2018 TDR News

We are pleased to advise arrangements for the 2018 TDR 1000 in Jwaneng from 22 to 24 June, both dates inclusive, are on track.

The route has been finalised, spectator points and fan parks co-ordinated by Botswana Tourism Organisation has been identified, VIP facilities for our host country Botswana and our event sponsor Toyota are in place and as always, the Botswana Police Services are one hundred percent on board to ensure our safe passage.

The old and the new combine for challenging weekend of world-class motor racing

Route director Adri Roets and a team from the Botswana Tourist Organisation (BTO) has again displayed a Midas touch with the route for this year’s Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race, round three of the South African Cross Country Series (SACCS) and a feast of motorcycle racing, in Jwaneng from June 22 to 24.

Toyota SA Motors will again be supporting the Road to Dakar initiative at this year’s Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1,000 Desert Race

The Road to Dakar consists of six global races-within-races, though not all of them are open to cars. As a matter of fact, the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1,000 Desert race is only open to cars, making is especially enticing for SACCS crews harbouring Dakar aspirations.
